Capespan hails African Delight

Posted on 06 July 2008

The South African integrated marketer is to increase the hectarage under production of the plum cultivar to which it has ‘exclusive’ rights until 2012.

Capespan Exports is one of two secured the contract from the Agricultural Research Council’s (ARC) commercial arm Culdevco. Although it claims exclusivity the Press Release states that Capespan is one of two companies to obtain rights to the cultivar. In 2007/8 the company exported 7K cartons. For the 2008/9 season, the company estimates exports of 15K cartons and expects a further substantial increase in export volumes within the next five years. The naming of the cultivar follows the ‘African’ theme used previously on its African Pride yellow plum.
