Corbana makes pesticide pledge

Posted on 17 November 2009

Costa Rica’s National Banana Corporation is committed to reducing the use of pesticides by 50% within eight years.

The challenge for banana producers is to reduce the volume of pre-harvest crop treatments but maintain a yield of 2,500 boxes per hectare, according to the organisation’s R&D department. Costa Rica has the world’s highest average per-hectare productivity for bananas.
